Characterist LLC’s Jonathan Low acted for Tan Joo Hong, a bus captain with SBS Transit, who pleaded guilty to 1 charge of causing death by a negligent act. Tan had been turning right at a cross junction between Anchorvale Road and Sengkang East Way, when he collided into a pedestrian who was walking across the pedestrian crossing with the green man signal in her favour.

For his offence, the Prosecution submitted that a sentence of at least 10 weeks’ imprisonment and 5 years’ disqualification from driving should be imposed. The Defencesubmitted in mitigation that, among others, Tan’s spotless driving record and his initiative to seek reconciliation with the victim’s family justified a substantial reduction in the sentence.

Tan was eventually sentenced to 8 weeks’ imprisonment, with 5 years’ disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
