Mitchell joined Characterist in 2022 as part of its Dispute Resolution practice group. He engages in a wide range of practice areas including Criminal, Negligence & Insurance, Family and Commercial litigation.
Mitchell has advised on and acted for clients in litigation at various levels of the Singapore Courts, including the High Court, and has successfully conducted his own trials, including contested interlocutory applications, trials on liability and assessment of damages hearings. He has also advised on and acted for clients in various proceedings before the Family Justice Courts, including contentious divorce and maintenance proceedings and probate and adoption work, lasting powers of attorney and deputyship.
He has been involved in the criminal justice system even before becoming a lawyer – he served in the Singapore Police Force with relevant experience in criminal investigations and is also pursuing his Master’s Degree in Forensic Science at the National University of Singapore, where he is slated to become one of the few cross-trained criminal lawyers island-wide.
In criminal litigation, he has advised on and acted for clients in a variety of different matters including blue-collar crimes such as outrages on modesty, voyeurism and offences under the Road Traffic Act 1961. He has also worked on white-collar crimes such as criminal breaches of trust and other regulatory offense such as those under the Companies Act 1967, Wildlife Act 1965, Workplace Safety and Health Act 2006 and Securities and Futures Act 2001.
Outside of work, Mitchell enjoys a variety of sports including bouldering, inline skating, cycling and floorball. As a graduate student at the National University of Singapore, he continues to participate in sporting activities at the University level, but finds it increasingly difficult to keep up with the much younger undergraduates. He is also culturally involved and (tries) to play the guitar and sing.
