Significant Matters & Transactions

 Shipping:

• Most recently, Vicki was involved in the arrest of the barge (also a floating fish farm) the “ECOSPARK”.  This arrest in turn gave rise to the High Court’s decision in Vallianz Shipbuilding & Engineering Pte Ltd v Owner of the vessel “ECO SPARK” [2023] SGHC 353, a landmark decision which provided clarity as to the definition of a ship under Singapore admiralty laws.
• She has commenced and defended legal proceedings and arbitral proceedings (including SIAC, HKIAC, LMAA and SCMA) for a Catalist-listed company in Singapore, involving multi-million-dollar ship purchase, shipbuilding, repair and conversion contracts and charter parties.

Commercial Matters and Disputes:

• Vicki routinely advises on shareholder agreements and other contractual arrangements.  
• Vicki has also litigated shareholder disputes and minority oppression claims including contentious shareholder disputes spanning multiple actions.  Her latest reported decision involving shareholder disputes is Chen Mingxing and others v Zhang Jian and others [2021] SGHC 3.

Insurance Claims and Disputes:

• She has provided advice and representation on behalf of leading insurers in relation to property lines, accident and industrial claims, and also on group policies.   

Employment Issues:

• She routinely provides advice to companies and employees on their rights and obligations under Singapore law.
• She has also assisted with the drafting of, and reviews of, employment contracts, retrenchment agreements etc.

Banking and Finance Cases:

• Vicki has provided advice and negotiated banking finance contracts and related agreements. 
• She has represented several foreign banks in relation to claims of fraud by their clients and successfully obtained injunctions against the removal of the fraudulent monies.  Secured pre-action discovery to assist with the pursuit of the fraud claims. 
• She has also represented various clients claiming against their private banks for negligent advice and/or management of their accounts and successfully negotiated settlement.

Building and Construction Cases and Disputes:

• Vicki has represented the Management Corporation Strata Title Plan, subsidiary proprietors and individual proprietors with respect to construction and renovation defects claims, and all manner of strata title related disputes.
• Notable cases include:
  • STB 23 of 2023 (represented the proprietors in a claim for alleged encroachment)
  • STB 29 of 2022 (successful defence of a water leak claim)
  • STB 24 of 2015 (represented the MCST in a claim for alleged failure to enforce the by-laws)

Probate & Administration:

• Vicki acted as lead counsel in the High Court decision of GDR and another v GDL and others [2022] SGHC 30, a case which involved the interpretation of a will that was heavily contested by the minor beneficiaries.
• She has previously facilitated the administration of a contentious estate that spanned across 8 jurisdictions and oversaw the litigation in the other jurisdictions.
